Bisbee Wood & Wire Co.
~The Story~
In May of 2011 while in Arizona visiting family, we came across a small town called Bisbee. It was in Bisbee where we had a serendipitous reaction to a place that inspired us. We were moved to return to Bisbee for more visits…maybe even to retire there someday. But most of all, to experience that relaxed quality of life in our own lives.
~The Store~
Bisbee is quirky, colorful, and authentic – the shopping scene provides something for everyone. At Bisbee Wood & Wire Co. we will recreate the experience by offering unique and one of a kind finds, such as:
Vintage, Antique, & Re-Purposed Items for the Home
Collectibles and Unique Objects of Desire
Creative & Industrial Décor
Inspired & Eclectic Art
Our focus will be around the Iowa & Johnston community, supporting local artisans and locally owned businesses. Our goal is to define a distinctive local character while giving Johnston an economic advantage.
~The Community~
In Addition to Bisbee Wood & Wire Co. we will be partnering with other community-focused businesses in order to achieve our goal.
Community Area:
Joe Doering is the owner of The Outside Scoop - a quirky and comfortable shop in Indianola that makes their delicious & creative ice cream from scratch. Joe will be running a kiosk version of his shop in front of Bisbee Wood & Wire Co., with picnic tables & benches available for enjoying the treats.
Community Garden/Nursery:
We will have garden plots for rent behind the building, and hope to establish a place that drives neighborhood improvement, sense of community and connection to the environment. The gardens can be as diverse as our citizens – only flowers, children’s gardens, etc. There are many studies about the positive impact of gardening on children, seniors, and the disabled. Johnston is home to many organizations that support these causes and our hope is that we can establish a partnership to help support them in their endeavors.
The grounds of this building have been seen as less than attractive in recent years – we believe that the garden space will turn them into something beautiful, and full of life. Because of the expense involved in creating and maintaining community garden space as well as our awareness that we are not the experts in this field, we are seeking community sponsorship for the gardens (water, soil, vendor for seeds, tools, etc., clearing & set up of garden boxes, children’s garden, etc.)
